Using an infrared driver-facing camera, KommuAssist 2 tracks eye movement, head position, and facial cues in real time. If signs of distraction or drowsiness are detected, the system issues audible and visual alerts to bring attention back to the road.
Continuous self-diagnostics monitor device temperature, camera health, and processing stability. In the event of a critical fault, KommuAssist 2 triggers a fail-safe mode, disabling only its autonomous functions while leaving all manual driving controls fully operational.
When the system approaches its maximum steering capability during cornering, an audio warning alerts the driver to take over the wheel, ensuring smooth control and avoiding abrupt disengagements.
With large 3.0 µm pixel HDR sensors (140 dB in OX03C10), KommuAssist’s 65° and 185° road cameras capture both dark roads and bright headlights without loss of detail. Multi-exposure fusion ensures lane markings and vehicles remain visible even under minimal ambient lighting. LED flicker mitigation prevents distraction from pulsing headlights or traffic lights.
Wide 185° coverage maintains situational awareness even when raindrops distort part of the windshield, while the 65° telephoto view tracks distant vehicles and lanes. HDR sensors reduce bloom from wet-road reflections and oncoming headlights, preserving contrast in low visibility. Placement behind the windshield keeps lenses clear with wiper action and defogging.
140 dB HDR imaging captures the bright sky and shadowed road simultaneously, preventing loss of lane and object detail in harsh sunlight. Multi-exposure capture adapts in real time to sudden brightness changes, such as driving toward the sun. The dual-FOV setup ensures that if one view is partially saturated, the other still provides usable vision for control.
